Kick off at the Amex before Watford’s 2-2 draw with Brighton
It’s advertised as the LONDON TOUR, and everyone goes to London for it.
You’re in London?
No, you’re in Watford.
Watford is not London.
It’s amazing to see people come from all around the globe to this town in hertfordshire
and it’s only 15 minutes from my house.
CR-AZ-Y celebrations, Deeney went mad, the players went mad, the stadium went mad, it was unbelievable
It was Retro day hence why harry was in a 90’s shirt, loved how he dived in on the bundle for the celebration.
Harry the Hornet is the best.
Muzza had a good second half, wasn’t impressed with him first half but he switched over to the right and his movement was better.
Why is Deeney always the last out?
He’s so lazy. Damn you Troy.
You so lazy.
But you cool. I like you.
Took the train into Watford Junction and got into the pub at 12 for a drink or two. pre-game and thought to myself are Burnley any good? I could only think of a couple of their players off the top of my head, Jay Rodriguez, Hemel-born Lee Grant, Charlie Austin and Ross Wallace, who always seems to score against us but Burnley aren’t having a bad season and I seem them as a similar sort of club to ourselves. I was pretty confident of us turning round our terrible last 2 performances and put a tenner on us to win at 13/10 but when I saw the team selection I was slightly bemused. No Trotta? I know he didn’t do much against Southampton, but neither did anyone else. No Kaca? A slippery player with a bit of pace, something we’ve lacked this season. Buaben on the right? I am a big fan of Prince Buaben but he is not in any shape or form a winger.
So we started the game with 4 central players in midfield and it showed, there was no width as we went forward thus we were just lumping it up to our two forwards, who in my opinion had a poor first half, no movement. But nobody had a good first half as summed up just before the break with poor defending from Nosworthy and a short header back from Mapps before Kuzczak stuttered a bit and Jay Rodriguez had the simplest of finishes and Burnley go in 1-0 up at the break.
We needed a change, some width and Kaca was the perfect player to come on at half time and he did, but I would’ve hoped Buaben moved inside with one of Hogg/Eustace coming off as they were both below par IMO but Buaben came off at half time, with Murray moving onto the right and the Fulham loanee playing Wide left. I actually called it would be 2-0 before the corner but I didn’t expect an own goal and it was poor header from Nos but what on earth was our so-called Premiership class keeper doing? No-mans land. I couldn’t see a way that we were going to get back into this, I wanted to leave soon, it was horrible. But we went up the other end and got a corner out of nothing, Nosworthy comes up for a corner for once and what does he do? Bang. header into the back of the net, Deeney picks the ball out of the net and we’re back in the game out of nothing. Suddenly, we had some movement, had some width, had some pace, had some flair. Eustace looked a different player second half, he left Hogg to do his job and actually started moving forward, which opened up the game a little. We were level on 72 minutes, good run from Kacaniklic and a lucky deflection from a Joe Garner pass and a brilliant finish from the winger and we’re level. Brilliant goal and really good composure from the young lad.
Another corner and a goal mouth scramble just 3 minutes later and we’re infront, headed about everywhere and it falls to Garner, then to Deeney and he pokes it past the bodies on the line, bedlam in the stands, I went mad, squashed in my ST seats I jumped into the empty row behind and was running around like a mad man, I turned around and noticed something very strange, a little boy in his Watford shirt, sat next to his Dad, who was going mental, who was sat playing his Nintendo DS, didn’t move, didn’t seem to care that we’d just scored, I doubt he even saw the goal, he didn’t look up from his screen throughout the whole celebrations, in a stark contrast there was a little boy sat behind him who was going absolutely mad, can’t have been much older than 8 or so, looked like he was about to cry with joy, he was going so crazy he took his shirt off, copying Deeney or just pure emotion from the little lad? He was jumping up and down, his dad and siblings/friends etc were going just as mad, it really did sum up what a game of football can do to a child, that little boy is going to go to school on Monday, ecstatic about how his team came from 2 goals down to win, his mates will talk about Man United and how Chelsea are rubbish because they lost one game but games like yesterday could create a fan for life for that little boy, but the one sat in front of him, totally missed it because he was playing Mario Kart or something on a portable games console. It’s not the first time I’ve seen someone playing one before, a lad a few rows in front of me is constantly on his iPod, his phone or PSP, god knows why his parents shell out however much for a season ticket every year, he clearly isn’t interested.
Anyway, back to the match, after the amazing celebrations, Deeney was booked for taking his shirt off, which is a ridiculous rule but that’s another matter. I looked at the clock and we still had 15 minutes to go, why did we have to take the lead so early!? I was predicting us to play the way we usually do when we take the lead, sit deep and concede late on, we did drop off a little bit but didn’t crumble like we used to under Malky. The officials did their best to help Burnley out, giving 5 minutes of injury time out of absolutely nowhere, possibly from their own time-wasting and if they’d equalised in that time I’d have been infuriated, it was the longest 5 minutes of my life, the ball was cleared, the ref looked at his watch, no whistle, cleared again, no whistle, when was the match going to end?!
The defence weren’t great, Mapps and Nos had their worst game together, the midfield were dreadful first half, but they were all good second half, as they all seemed to change their attitude and way they played. I have strange views on the two forwards, I love Troy Deeney and he has scored some very important goals for us this season but Joe Garner on the other hand I am unsure about. I can’t make my mind up what kind of striker he is, he certainly isn’t a poacher, showed by the fact he only has the one goal for us this season, he’s not a target man, he works hard and puts a shift in and falls over a lot, he was dead after the game Saturday, collapsing after the final whistle but I’m not so sure he’s the kind of striker we need right now.
Anyway, a fantastic result, a great atmosphere, and one of, if not the best games this season. Come on you ‘Orns.
